About the Founder
Hello! Welcome to my little corner of the web. My name is Noëlla. I was born in the DRC, raised in Canada and what would be described as a Third Culture kid.
I have a background in Professional Communication but graduated with a B.A. Law. I have a natural Inclination for art & design, writing, and listening to people.

About Kimya Studios
“Kimya”: Lingala (DRC) word for “peace”.
I created Kimya Creative Studios to instill into others the same feeling I get whenever I see somethings that captures my attention: be it a natural landscape or a work of art. It is a moment in time that forces one to pause, to admire, and to ponder. In the best case scenario, one leaves with a sense peace or understanding.
I wanted to combine my love for art, design, and writing with my longing for people's inner wellbeing. Having myself experienced the benefits of writing and art to gain better understanding of complex situations, it seemed only fitting to share that gift with others.
Here, we stay away from trends and focus on creating a life and an environment that is true to us. That is by asking ourselves important questions and answering them with an honesty that will not be judged nor dismissed.

About the Art
Having been exposed to people of all backgrounds, I learned to observe and to listen, taking the best qualities from those around me and striving to cultivate those qualities myself. That curiosity about people translated into my art as I explored different avenues from portraits to abstract art, from oil pastels to digital painting.
That, to me, summarizes what art should be: experimental, free, personal. Art is beauty. Art is peace. Art is chaotic. Art is healing. Sometimes it means nothing. Sometimes it expresses everything.
I am not a portraitist, but I enjoy the depth of a set of eyes glancing into the distance. I am not a landscapist, but I cannot help but attempt to translate natural beauty into a page. Some days, I am drawn to the calming sensation of a minimalist canvas and on others I must allow the dancing colors in my mind to take centerstage.
I have made many attempts to focus on one medium, one type of art, and have failed greatly. To refrain from using a variety of hues to please the minimalist or to discard the trees on a hilltop just to please the abstract art lovers would be to deny myself of the very elements that make me appreciate this life and its intricacies.
At its best, art should communicate a sense of gratefulness; a silent whisper that says “thank you for reminding me that there is beauty in the midst of chaos; thank you for teaching me something new; thank you for the sense of peace and calmness that this piece brings to my home; thank you for the smile this image brought after a long day”. Those special moments should not be reserved for a select few.
That is why Kimya Creative Studios aims to make art accessible and affordable to all, both for the consumers of the art and for the creators themselves. I hope for Kimya Creative Studios to become an avenue of possibilities for Congolese artists to share their visions of the world whilst also making a living from their craft.
