About

Hello! My name is Noëlla. I am Canadian Congolese and what you would describe as a Third Culture kid. Having been exposed to people of all backgrounds, I learned to observe and to listen, taking the best qualities from those around me and striving to cultivate those qualities myself. That curiosity about people translated into my art as I explored different avenues from portraits to abstract art, from oil pastels to digital painting.

That, to me, summarizes what art should be: experimental, free, personal. Art is beauty. Art is peace. Art is chaotic. Art is healing. Sometimes it means nothing. Sometimes it expresses everything.

I am not a portraitist, but I enjoy the depth of a set of eyes glancing into the distance. I am not a landscapist, but I cannot help but attempt to translate natural beauty into a page. Some days, I am drawn to the calming sensation of a minimalist canvas and on others I must allow the dancing colors in my mind to take centerstage.

I have made many attempts to focus on one medium, one type of art, and have failed greatly. To refrain from using a variety of hues to please the minimalist or to discard the trees on a hilltop just to please the abstract art lovers would be to deny myself of the very elements that make me appreciate this life and its intricacies.
